first steps

May seems to be the true start of Spring this year in Boston and with it, I have decided to make every effort I can to do new things. Even if they are small and simple and really not all that new… but maybe they will grow into something unique for me – entries onto paths that do go in new directions. Perhaps they parallel old ones for a while, that’s fine. I have no intention of giving any of those old paths up; I plan on walking these things for a while and know full well they won’t be going in just one straightforward direction, but meandering and crossing over and at times pooling in to one another.

So, what I’ve learned so far is that these acts need to be actual ‘acts.’ Take, for example the idea of tending my front garden – something I’ve promised myself I’d do for years running. (note it’s just a plot of dirt that separates the house from the sidewalk…this is city livin’ after all.) So, my new thing will be to put a simple ring of stones around the bulbs popping up. Very simple, right? But perhaps this will lead me down a new gardening path and by the end of the summer I will actually know what I’m doing out there. I will call myself a gardener and believe it. It’s powerful to realize that steps are necessary to get me where I want to go – and only I can take them.

All right, this is my first blog ever – also something new. Let’s see where this one leads…
